Indonesia is in the process of lifting the moratorium of migrant workers placement to the middle east.

The meeting between The Ministry of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection (KP2MI) and the 9th Commission of the Indonesian Legislative as a joint workgroup was convened today to address the process of lifting the moratorium on the placement of Indonesian Migrant Workers to The Middle East. KP2MI is continuing previous effort of The Ministry of Labor (KEMNAKER) by evaluating the single corridor placement system or SPSK, and seeks to improve the system.

KP2MI argues that Middles Eastern countries, especially The KIngdom Saudi Arabia, have made significant reform to protect migrant workers. These reform includes providing better insurance and social safety net, to placement transparency and accountability. Therefore, placement of migrant workers to The Middle East is now deemed as a feasible solution in an attempt by the Ministry to meet the increasing target of the placement of Indonesian migrant workers to work overseas. KP2MI believes that the rising interest of many Indonesians to work overseas could ease the soaring numbers of unemployment in the Country.
